MacOS must be version 10.14 or newer. That is, Mojave, Catalina, or Big Sur. We recommend upgrading to the latest version of macOS. If you experience any issues after upgrading your macOS to version 10.15, you must install the latest version of Docker Desktop to be compatible with this version of macOS. I'm using macOS Big Sur and Oracle 11g. Before updating my mac, I usually opened SQL Developer in the terminal: docker exec -it oracle sqlplus But after the update, I got an error: OCI runtime exec failed: exec failed: containerlinux.go:349: starting container process caused 'exec format error': unknown. SQL exporting can be a bit messy but other than that, MDB ACCDB is one of the most powerful tools available for opening database files on a Mac. MDB Tool – For Microsoft Access ($5.99) MDB Tool – For Microsoft Access allows you to export data directly into SQL or CSV and open it in Excel. It’s one of the simplest ways to open database.

Oracle SQL Developer is an Integrated development environment (IDE) for working with SQL in Oracle databases. Oracle Corporation provides this product free; it uses the Java Development Kit.

Oracle SQL Developer supports Oracle products. In the past a variety of third-party plugins was supported which users were able to deploy to connect to non-Oracle databases. Oracle SQL Developer worked with IBM DB2, Microsoft Access, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, SybaseAdaptive Server, Amazon Redshift and Teradata databases.[3]
Oracle SQL Developer supports automatic tabs, code insight, bracket matching and syntax coloring for PL/SQL.
Components[edit]
Oracle SQL Developer product components include the OWA (Oracle Web Agent or MOD_PLSQL), an extension module for the Apache web server, and helps in setting up dynamic web-pages from PL/SQL within Oracle SQL Developer.[4]

In addition to the extensions provided by Oracle, third parties have written extensions to add new features to SQL Developer and to integrate with other products:[5]

- SQL Developer Data Modeler operates with and models metadata.[6] Prior to SQL Developer version 3, it constituted a separate (but integrated) free[7] counterpart of SQL Developer. As of SQL Developer version 3 modeling became an integrated part of the overall tool. 'Data Modeler' can produce (among other outputs) .dmd files.[8]

OWA (Oracle Web Agent) or MOD_PLSQL is an Apache (Web Server) extension module that enables you to create dynamic Web pages from PL/SQL packages and stored procedures. The OWA Output pane enables you to see the HTML output of MOD_PLSQL actions that have been executed in the SQL Worksheet.

After upgrading to macOS Big Sur I couldn’t run Oracle SQL Developer. I got the following error: The application “SQLDeveloper.app” can’t be opened
To resolve this issue I got help from Kris Rice and Niels de Bruijn. The issue is caused by Apple and the Java applet plugin.
Here’s how I got SQL Developer working:

The one that caused the problem is the 'Oracle Corporation' - 'Java' /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin/Contents/Home and you’ll need to remove it.
Remove the Applet Plugin
Oracle Sql Developer Macos Big Sur Mac
If you run SQL Developer now it should work. I’m not sure about the side effects of removing this Java applet plugin. If I find it to be critical to other things I’ll be sure to update this post.
